ON THE WAY:
Next morning we left Bakersfield early and drove toward Death Vally. We believed for sure that we would not see anything quite like the Yosemite Vally during the rest of the trip. However, we were totally wrong. On the way we stopped at a scenic area and here is what we saw. See if you can find couple of cars on the road below. It will give you a better idea on the scale of the area.

IN THE VALLY:
First stop in the vally was by a cliff. We hiked into it. Can you find a person on the ridge below the cliff.

DEVIL'S GOLF COURSE:
This is the lowest point in the North America. It is some 250 feet below the sea level. The white stuff you see on the ground is not snow but it is actually salt. This area sees a temp fluctuation of over 70 deg. F in a day. Living here would be equivelent to living on the moon.

STAY IN THE VALLY:
Camping was out of the question. By now I was running 101 fever with cough and cold. We stayed at a hotel in the vally called the Furnace Creek Inn. This hotel was built in the 20s with upper crust tourists in mind. It is the finest hotel I have ever stayed at. Who would have thought that one would find such a grand hotel in such a desolate place. After a good night sleep we left in the morning for the Grand Canyon.
